LANDSCAPE
A constructed garden becomes a social surface for kneeling, encounter and ritualised action.
CONCEPT
Rectangular forms modelled on tatami mats are covered with artificial grass and placed within a field of white gravel. The geometric green islands cite both interior architecture and the conventions of the Japanese dry garden.
Visitors kneel or sit on the mats. Through bodily use, the installation changes from a composed landscape into a provisional social space.
Natural and artificial, garden and room, image and action overlap. Constructed nature becomes a surface through which cultural habits can be performed and reconsidered.
