DEMONTAGE

Thirty-six stones are collected from Alpine summits and duplicated in stoneware. The replicas preserve the form of the original stones while separating that form from its geological substance.

The summit stones themselves are ground into dust and presented as small mountains. Each is identified through geological and geographical data, joining physical material to an abstract system of location and classification.

The work reverses the conventional monumentality of the summit. Collection becomes erosion; possession becomes dissolution; and the mountain returns at another scale.
